facebook The Beatbox Acappella | How Music Can Boost Employee Engagement

The Beatbox Acappella

The human voice is amazing! Our vocal cords can make a variety of sounds that are constantly changing, depending on mood, energy, and rhythm. Putting some of those sounds into a beat using one’s mouth, lips, tongue, and voice is the essence of beatboxing. A cappella (Italian for “in the manner of the chapel”) music is group or solo singing without instrumental accompaniment, or a piece intended to be performed in this way. Put both of these together, and you have the Beatbox Acapella! — an engrossing activity that challenges your team to create music virtually, using nothing but your vocal cords. This is a unique offering conceived and created by Adam Thompson, an award-winning artist from Australia. Do you think your team will be up for it?

Rectangular tables with flat tops are needed for the activity. Usually, hotels use 6 x 2 ft rectangular tables, and these are good enough as long as the surface is smooth. We have also managed with circular tables when rectangular ones have been unavailable.

We had a virtual team event with approx 80 members for 90 mins. Every member was kept engaged with the initial ice-breaker games followed by the actual game. All our team members enjoyed it a lot and were thrilled while solving the hunt. I strongly recommend FocusU team for such virtual company team events. Our senior members in the team were also very positive about the overall event.

The activities were truly fun. Particularly enjoyed the quirky challenges which made us get over our inhibitions like performances before colleagues or letting the fun side of our personalities show through photos we'd prefer to keep to ourselves. The time constraint and need for coordination amongst team members really fuelled our creativity both as individuals and as a team.
