We tend to believe that if we stay important, at least in perception and hold on to the things we do that normally make us feel important, we become invaluable to our business and organization. This leads to many interesting and unhealthy behaviors – including holding on to information without sharing openly, reluctance to collaborate, unwillingness to share resources, making others feel insecure, and controlling or micromanaging. We continue to move on superficially without self reflection, personal growth and reach a stage where our egos and fears prevent us from stepping out of our comfort zones – until a major change inevitably hits us and forces us to rethink.
I like to say that jazz is like a nice glass of wine. Why do I say that? Well, perhaps because I love jazz and I love wine, and who doesn’t! But beyond that, wine and jazz are both things that evolve as you experience them. You come to appreciate both in different ways – the longer you listen to/taste it. Like a grape that ripens with age produces a beautiful wine, young leaders ripen with experience and blossom into strong individuals who create opportunities for their employees and build a culture of innovation and freedom to experiment.

Ever so rarely, there comes a movie, which makes a deep impact and also teaches a few lessons. Lagaan: Once upon a time in India, the epic drama written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, was one such movie that offers us several management and leadership lessons.
There seems like a singular common trait that distinguishes highly successful and productive people from the rest, one that differentiates between average and superior performers. This common trait is a sense of urgency that drives people to work much smarter and harder than normal.
