As professionals in the teambuilding and facilitation space, we have the opportunity to run exciting, out of the box activities that bring teams closer together while allowing for meaningful ideas to arise. But before an idea makes it to the execution stage, we need to also explain the why for each activity.
It was 3 hours into the session and the participants’ eyes were moistening; some were openly dabbing away the stray tears that refused to be confined. It was past 10pm, well past the official timeline set by the leader to wrap up, however no one was in a hurry to leave. They were all glued to their seats.

We all like to have some keepsake of our happy moments. Photos and video are the most common ways to capture memories. For making a video, you need to carry a camera, a laptop with video editing software, and of course you need your team. With these ingredients, you can definitely make a team video. Before the gathering starts, decide upon what kind of video is desired – what should the overall essence of the video be? There is lots of video editing software available that enables one to edit a video using different themes. If it’s a team video there would likely be some sort of action happening in that meeting, get together, or offsite. Be clear upon the agenda and just get started!
After reading the book “Extreme Ownership: How US Navy SEALs Lead and Win,” I was in awe of the tools and strategies used by one the world’s elite forces to succeed in the most hostile environments. From taking decisions in the midst of heavy bombing to executing missions in IED (Improvised Explosive Device) laid areas, managing a team of high performing Navy SEALs is a task every SEAL Commander must master.
5 Dysfunction of a Team, Good to Great, Superteams, and many other books share a lot of ideas that help convert a less productive team into a high performing one. These books offer various ideas and tools to guide managers and leaders to push their teams to move to the next level.
No matter how much you love your job, there will still be some people who get your goat or test your patience. These people make you believe in the saying “what does not kill you makes you stronger.” And stronger I have become in the last 10 years of my career. When we hear the word team, we think of a group of people coming together to create, produce, or accomplish something together. Some of the best and most common examples of good teams are sports teams. But let’s take a step outside of the stadium and into the theatre. A less-used, but equally apt example is the orchestra: the world’s greatest team.
