Knowing Me, Knowing You Challenge

If you are a fan of ABBA, these lines would be so familiar to you:

Knowing me, knowing you (a-ha)
There is nothing we can do

Most misunderstandings and conflicts in teams happen because very often we don’t understand each other well enough. As humans, most of us suffer from what is called the “fundamental attribution error” - a cognitive bias to assume that a person's actions depend on what "kind" of person that person is rather than on the social and environmental forces that influence the person.

So the better we know a person, chances are – the better our interpersonal relationships are. Especially in a virtual environment, the issues and challenges around communication get further accentuated.

How can we get over this and know each other better – in a fun, engaging manner?

Knowing Me, Knowing You – is a creative activity that gets virtual teams engaged with each other in a very short span of time. The breakout rooms ring with laughter and chatter as team members discover hidden and unknown facets about each other. “Don’t tell me!”, “You are kidding!”, “Oh my God!”, “I didn’t know that about you!” – are all phrases that we often hear in this session. Time generally flies in this activity and we have learnt from experience that keeping a buffer of 30 minutes for time spills is a very good idea for this activity!

The activity is a great way for virtual teams to break ice with each other. It doesn’t matter whether these are existing teams or newly constituted ones, the impact is just the same. When debriefed, the activity is brought to a close with participants sharing their different thoughts, experiences and take aways from the activity. As a finale, teams sometimes vote for “the most surprising”, “the most outrageous” or “the most touching” story that was unveiled – to loud cheers from one and all.

A few key parameters:

Is this workshop right for my team?
You think you know your team members very well, until you do a session like this!

The activity brings forth different themes that can be debriefed and discussed at the end of the activity. A few of these being:

• The importance of getting to know each other better on an informal level
• Challenges in interpersonal and team communication
• Team Synergy and camaraderie

If you are looking for an engaging activity, that helps individuals in your team get to know each other better, FocusU invites you to Knowing Me, Knowing You!

  • "I would like to congratulate and thank you for helping PVMI with such an engaging and fun session for the summer interns as part of their Induction. You already had various options for the session in mind when we were planning for the induction in our office. But when Covid19 situation led to the lockdown, you were able to quickly suggest us other options, which could be done on a virtual manner. It was wonderful working with the team who were ready with the entire flow of the program from Day 1 and were able to execute it exactly how we had planned the sessions to be. The session held true to what we at PVMI stand for – Fun, Connecting and Enriching.

Even in a virtual session they were able to maintain the mood as we have got used to during FocusU physical sessions. Last but not least, I would like to thank them also for helping us with such a beautiful video and posters of the interns. They were always available to help us make the video and the posters look perfect. The entire management of PVMI was really appreciative of what we had to show at the end of the session.

Thanks to the entire team of FocusU who made it possible and helped us in giving a very differentiated experience to our Interns”
