Café-Clue-Day
Because unconscious biases quietly shape everyday decisions

Why This Matters
Unconscious bias operates quietly, influencing decisions and interactions without our awareness. Creating more equitable workplaces begins with noticing these patterns, questioning assumptions, and reflecting on how bias shows up in everyday choices.
Café-Clue-Day creates the space for that reflection and helps learners recognise bias as it happens. Through guided scenarios and problem-solving, participants slow down their thinking, challenge automatic judgments, and build awareness that translates into more inclusive behaviour at work.

What’s under the hood
Intro: Context Setting
Set the context by understanding what unconscious bias is and why it matters in everyday workplace decisions.
Level 1: Recency Bias
Explore how recent information can disproportionately influence judgement and decision-making.
Level 2: First Impression Bias
Examine how initial impressions are formed and how they continue to shape perceptions over time.
Level 3: Stereotypes
Unpack how generalized assumptions influence behaviour, choices, and interactions.
Level 4: Affinity Bias
Recognise the tendency to favour people who feel familiar or similar to us.
Level 5: Halo Effect
Understand how one positive trait can skew overall perception and evaluation.
Level 6: Proximity Bias
Investigate how physical or emotional closeness impacts visibility, trust, and decisions.
Bonus Round: Knowledge Check
Consolidate learning through reflection and a final knowledge check to reinforce key insights.

Unlike traditional training that relies heavily on presentations or awareness sessions, Café-Clue-Day uses immersive storytelling and interactive problem-solving to surface bias naturally. Participants experience how unconscious bias shows up in everyday situations, reflect on their choices, and discuss insights collaboratively, making learning more engaging, relatable, and actionable.
The complete experience takes approximately 45–60 minutes, including all six levels and the bonus round.
Café-Clue-Day is delivered on Joyflar, FocusU’s gamified learning platform. It can be run as a facilitator-led, synchronous session or completed as a self-paced digital experience, depending on organisational needs.
Participants engage with narrative-driven scenarios, puzzles, clues, and reflection prompts that surface common unconscious biases and encourage discussion, critical thinking, and self-reflection.
No. Café-Clue-Day is not an assessment or diagnostic tool. It is designed as a safe, non-judgmental learning experience that helps participants recognise how bias operates and reflect on everyday decision-making.
Joyflar provides participation and engagement analytics, enabling L&D teams to monitor completion, interaction levels, and overall engagement across cohorts.
Participants gain greater awareness of unconscious bias, a shared language to discuss bias safely, and practical insights that support more inclusive behaviours at work.
