Driving Competency Development: SMOLLAN’s Blended Learning Journey through Microlearning

SMOLLAN partnered with FocusU to enhance competencies within its Global Delivery Center and Head Office teams through a blended learning program. The journey aimed to build capabilities in strategy, operational excellence, and leadership, focusing on skills like empathy, stakeholder management, and adapting to change. The program included a self-report questionnaire, a two-day experiential workshop, and 90 days of reinforcement via mobile microlearning.

The experiential workshop used activities such as “Lost Dutchman’s Gold Mine” and “Domino Rally” to surface core learning objectives interactively. The mobile microlearning phase offered 10–15 minute modules through an app, enabling participants to apply skills to real-world scenarios on the go. Challenges included “The Accountability Challenge,” “Draw an Empathy Map,” and “The Agile Sprint Challenge,” each designed to foster practical competency application.

Participants found the program impactful, with 94% feeling more confident in creative problem-solving. Leadership feedback highlighted the program’s continuous and accessible structure, supporting sustained growth. SMOLLAN praised FocusU for delivering a valuable, agile, and relevant learning experience during a critical period​.
