How a global consulting firm’s Mauritius team enhanced their consulting skills by learning experientially through a business simulation
A global consulting firm’s Mauritius team collaborated with FocusU to enhance client-handling skills among Level 11 consultants, addressing issues like slow decision-making, lack of rapport-building, and over-reliance on leaders. To develop a consulting mindset, FocusU designed a two-and-a-half-day learning journey centered on a “Grand Prix” business simulation.
In this simulation, participants acted as team managers tasked with critical decision-making, resource allocation, and problem-solving, mirroring real consulting challenges. Following the simulation, debrief sessions allowed participants to analyze their decisions, gaining insights into areas for improvement. Additionally, each consultant made a personal commitment to implement one area of growth, shared with stakeholders for accountability.
The program began with a kickoff workshop featuring team-building activities and a clear outline of learning objectives. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with participants rating the experience 9.2 out of 10, praising the interactive, no-slides approach that fostered engagement. Consultants reported increased self-confidence and noted immediate application of new skills in client interactions, underscoring the program’s impact on their consulting effectiveness.
