The 21 Day Challenge

Health is a state of body. Wellness is a state of being. Can you reach it in just 21 days?

Your habits will determine your future” Jack Canfield

Consider this:
How many times have you tried to rise early and failed?
How many times have you committed to an exercise routine and failed?

Acquiring a new habit, is definitely not a walk in the park. Most people would have the scars of many such struggles imprinted deep in their minds. And yet, as we all know – the path to our future is determined by our daily habits!

How can leaders ensure that their team members get into the habit of a wellness routine? After all, employees who are mentally and physically healthy are happier, more focused and are better performers. In a largely virtual world, where there is little scope of any watercooler chats and impromptu catchups, there is a suppressed mental and emotional stress on remote employees. This makes it even more important that leaders nudge their team members towards personal wellbeing.

How can we do this?

Thanks to the power of technology, gamification and the concept of nudges (made famous by behavioral economist Richard Thaler and legal scholar Cass Sunstein through their 2008 book, Nudge) today it is possible to nudge people towards behaviors that are in their own self-interest.

Welcome to The 21-Day Challenge – a gamified experience that delivers interesting and fun, health & wellness challenges each day to employees on their own cell phones. These challenges are spread over a period of 21-days, which gives just enough time to employees to choose a wellness routine that they like and develop it as a habit that they would like to keep even after the intervention.

Whether habits do form in-21 days or not is a moot point. While some argue that it takes more than 21-days for a habit to be formed, others point out that sometimes it can take a person one critical moment to stop smoking or drinking and acquire sobriety. It can also take a person just a flash of a second to decide to eat healthy food and lose weight. What everyone agrees on though is that it needs some sort of a nudge.

The 21-day challenge is just such a nudge – curated in a way that it fits in a regular workday or weekend and integrated in a way that it is not disruptive. It can be done by team members at their own convenience through the day. Yet there is just an appropriate amount of competition introduced between smaller teams, to motivate people to participate and push each other to participate too. Each of the challenges are socialized to keep the engagement high, thus bringing the team members closer to one another, even while staying socially distant.

Is this workshop right for my team?

A lot of research and anecdotal evidence readily available on the net points towards the fact that companies with strong health and wellness programs outperform others on the stock market.

Many businesses are interested in implementing a workplace health promotion program, but fear that they are “too small” to support a comprehensive program, or that the program will “cost too much.”

By marrying wellness with the principles of gamification and microlearning, the 21 day challenge makes it very easy for organizations to adopt a wellness initiative for their employees.

FocusU invites you to explore the 21-Day Challenge! Let us show you how, healthy habits can be formed with minimal effort and in a fun way.
